GTS was started with one full time and a couple of part time people in a back room in Louies law office. At that time the title business was pretty sleepy. It was back at the time when you could be an order taker in the title business and service wasnt well defined but it probably meant that you would get your order back in two or three weeks. Title evidence at that time in small towns in Wisconsin was still dominated by abstracts and title insurance was just starting to gain prominence. The emergence of the secondary mortgage market greatly accelerated title insurance becoming the standard for title evidence.
GTS decided at that time that service was going to be its hallmark. The company started measuring three-day service and that was its initial internal service standard. Today its internal standard is twenty-four hours (although in the refinancing boom that target was extremely difficult to meet). GTS also made another precedent setting decision, i.e. to provide title insurance only and not prepare abstracts. GTS reasoned that title insurance eventually was going to dominate the market for title evidence and if it wanted to live up to its service standard of three-day service that could only be done with title insurance.

This business model was successful right from the start. GTSs Fond du Lac office grew to six people in 1988.
In the Fall of 1988 GTS acquired Wausau Abstract and Title Company from a Wausau family that operated the company and were intending to retire. This office is still operated under the GTS name in the Wausau area.
In 1990 GTS purchased Dodge County Abstract and Title that now has offices in both Juneau and Beaver Dam. In 1992 GTS purchased Cherryland Abstract and Title in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
Over the years GTS has made a number of other acquisitions or start-ups in Green Lake, Menomonie, Osceola, and Merrill.
All of these offices are now operated under the GTS name.
GTS has a sister company called Information Professionals Company or Info Pro and this company provides tax reporting services to lenders and sells digital real estate and other legal forms especially to attorneys but to all in need. It can be found at www.infoprofessionals.com.
